JERRY CREMIN

PRESIDENTS CUP & SHIELD COMPETITION

In 2017 the club committee decided that we would form a new competion in a show of respect for the man responsible for the start of road bowling in Fenor in the 1970's.

After chatting with Jerry about forming the competion he gracefully declined and the clubs members present on the day insisted to him that it was the least we could do for all the hard work he had put in during the early years of our club and his integral role in sitting up our social club in 2012 after much discussion he accepted so we set about making out a format for the main competion the Jerry Cremin Presidents Cup it was decided that we would make it an open draw doubles competion open to all social club players and invites were sent to social club throughout the country and the formation of the Presidents Shield would see the winner of the Fenor Social club League vs the winner of the Killea social club League every year.

The only thing left to do was to get Jerry to chose a local charity for the proceeds of the event to go to,

Jerry asked that we would run the charity  past his Daughter Francis as he felt she would have a better idea for a charity than he would, after a quick chat it was decided that the chosen charity would be the Waterford Solas Cancer Support Centre.

It was decided the the 1st president cup would take place on the 9th of December and has taking place in December every year since with all the proceeds going to the solas centre each year.

To date the club has raised over €1000 for the solas centre over the 3 years of the Jerry Cremin President Cup and shield event and we hope to continue raising money for this fantastic Local Charity for years to come to help with their great work in waterford and the south east area and keep remembering the tireless work and effort put in by our beloved late president Jerry Cremin.
